Though you’re too young and dumb to appreciate it, your college years are some of the best of your life, with or without the common mistakes you made. I remember my student life well. I’d get up at noon, eat some cereal, watch some daytime TV, and maybe read for a bit. It was a simpler, easier time. If only I knew how good I had it back then… I might have savored every last moment of the experience before I had to bounce back into reality and get a job.
Still, while my college days are over, I can take solace in this little nugget of a fact: people make some really bad common mistakes while studying. After all, it’s your first time away from your family and the first taste of freedom you’ve had in your young life. It’s no wonder that things get a little messy from time to time.
Here are some common mistakes we all make in college.
1.Choosing early morning lectures
One of the most brilliant things about college life is the fact that you actually get to choose your lectures. This choice is the home for most common mistakes. For the first time in your young adult life, you will have control over when you study and that in itself is just thrilling. But, alas, with great power comes great responsibility. You need to make sure that there is no way that you screw things up.
It’s one of the rookie common mistakes to select classes that start early in the morning. The reality of the situation is that you’re never, ever going to attend those classes. The moment your alarm goes off, you’ll be hitting that snooze button time and time again. Before you know it, it will be the end of term and you’ll have hardly attended any of your lectures. Now, that does not mean great things for your grades, let me tell you.
2. Drinking whatever is in the red cups of doom
In the early days of your college existence, you might be invited to the odd shindig here and there. If you can tear yourself away from your textbooks (just kidding!), it might be worth checking out one of these little soirees. Parties happen basically every night at college which means that you will have plenty of chances to meet new people, socialize, and generally have the time of your life.
Many of these parties will have one thing in common; the red cups of doom. Who even knows what’s in these cups? No one even knows who mixes them or how they came to be. Still, from the moment you take your first sip, you will not know what’s hit you. I lost many nights to the wrath of these cups! Learn from my common mistakes.
3.Failing miserably to make food
If this is your first venture into the world of cooking, let me wish you luck. When I went to college, I found that this whole cookery malarky was a load harder than I had ever imagined. Up until then, my parents just popped the dinner on the table and I ate it. Oh, how dumb I was to take that for granted. If only I knew that the food really did not cook itself, I might have been nicer to my folks.
When you first start cooking for yourself, you should know that there will be a fair few disasters in store for you. It’s nothing to be ashamed of when you think about it logically. Every time you end up burning some toast or ending up with gloopy oatmeal, just remember it’s a learning process.
